Santiam Firefighter Academy in Full Swing

Chain Saw Practice

     Santiam Firefighter Academy started in March and now is in its 6^th week of training with 17 students from area fire departments. Those with recruits attending the academy is Turner, Aumsville, Jefferson, Stayton, Sublimity, Lyons, and Gates Fire Districts.

     Recruits have received training in fire behavior, safety, building construction, traffic control, water supply, ropes and knots, portable fire extinguishers, building search, communications, chain saws, forcible entry and ladders. The recruits are about 1/2 way thru their basic training and will finish up in June with written and practical exams, live fire training, and finally graduation on June 15^th.
