Old Fashion Muster Adds Fun to Joint Drill

Bucket Brigade
Bucket Brigade

The fifth Thursday joint drill between Sublimity and Stayton in July proved to be fun and competitive. The decision was to have fun yet use some skills we have learned and used in the "old days" of firefighting. Although it was not exactly old equipment, the theory was the same.

The first order of business, to add some degree of competition, was what the prize for the winners would be. After several ideas, the members present decided the losing department would wear the other district's Tshirt at their breakfast and buy the other department breakfast.

The 3 events were: bucket brigade, motorized hose wagon: and motorized pumpers. Each team competed in each event: bucket brigade was head to head, motorized pumpers and hose wagons were timed. The event to determine the winning department was the motorized pumper. Each department picked a team of their best 5 to run the event and the best time wins.

By a separation of 1.7 seconds the members of the Stayton station beat the Sublimity station. With that we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast served by Sublimity members wearing our Tshirts. A pancake breakfast never tasted so goooooood !!!!

After all was said and done that evening, it was great to see good sportsmanship and camaraderie from all who participated. It is amazing how a little competition can raise the level of importance and skills by ALL participating. It is a good thing we can bring each department together to train and have fun. This is important to the success we have working together. This night truly was an important step for both districts in continuing our joint operations and training together for the citizens we serve.
