2015 Bond Measure Information
2015 BOND MEASURE INFORMATION
MEASURE 24-382
Election Date: MAY 19, 2015
Facts about Stayton Fire District
We are a combination district with 50 volunteer career firefighters, 6 paid career firefighters, 1 office administrator, and 18 volunteer support members. We protect 107 sq. miles including the communities of Marion, Mehama, Mt. Pleasant, Elkhorn and the City of Stayton with stations in Marion, Stayton, Mehama and Elkhorn. We responded to over 900 calls for service in 2014 including medical calls, fires, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, hazardous materials incidents, public assists, animal rescues and other miscellaneous requests.
Why is the District asking for additional Funding?
The decision comes from the elected Board of Directors after reviewing the apparatus replacement plan and the current and future needs of the District with the number one priority being the safety of our citizens and firefighters.
What will the Bond Cost?
The estimated cost of the bond will be $0.25 per $1,000 of assessed value; the same amount that will expire June 2015 from the last bond measure approved 11 years ago in 2004. Therefore the taxes assessed per year are not expected to increase, just continue for 5 more years. For a home valued at $230,000 the assessment would remain the same, approximately $60 per year or $5 per month. The bond will not exceed $1,050.000.
What will the District purchase?
1 fire engine to replace a 1990 engine
1 wildland engine to replace a 1988 wildland engine
1 Command vehicle
81 breathing air bottles, for firefighting, that, by law, are approaching the end of their life cycle
7 Automatic External Defibrillators replacing units that are nearing manufacturer’s service life
3 Thermal Imagining Cameras to replace one out dated camera and add two
Major repair to failing fire sprinkler system in the Stayton station
