EMMITSBURG, MD – The 33rd Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will honor three firefighters who died in the line of duty from Oregon. They are among the 98 firefighters who died in 2013 and nine firefighters who died in previous years who will be remembered at the official national service held at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Sunday, October 12.

• Firefighter/Tree Faller John E. Hammack, age 58, of R & K Water Service, Inc., USDA Contractor, died after being struck by a burning snag as he cleared hazardous trees during a wildfire at the Mt. Washington Wilderness Area of the Deschutes National Forest on August 1, 2013.
• Firefighter Oscar Montano-Garcia, age 54, of Pacific Coast Contracting, Inc. died after he collapsed while working the Nabob Fire in the Rogue River- Siskiyou National Forest in northern California on August 25, 2013.
• Firefighter Jesse Austin Trader, age 19, of the Oregon Department of Forestry died from injuries sustained in an apparatus rollover accident during operations at the Big Windy Complex Fire on August 6, 2013.

Their names will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Academy grounds. The national tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration. More than 5,000 people, including members of Congress, Administration officials and other dignitaries, members of the fire service, and families and friends of the fallen firefighters are expected to attend. Families will receive flags flown over the U. S. Capitol and the National Memorial. Members of the fire service, honor guard units and pipe and drum units from across the U.S. will participate in this national tribute.
