District Ladder assists with holding Flag during FF Memorial

L80 Displaying Flag at FF Memorial

September 17th has been declared a day of remembrance for fallen firefighters in the state of Oregon by our Governor. This is a time for everyone in or related to the fire service to come together and remember our comrades who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

Firefighters from all over the state participated in a service to honor Fallen Firefighters and add two new names to the memorial wall.

This year was a special year for the Stayton Fire District as we were asked to participate in the flying of our nation’s colors.  Ladder 80 and Woodburn’s Tower 21 were positioned just outside the entrance of DPSST to fly a 30 ft flag over Aumsville Highway to welcome all who came to the memorial.

We arrived early at DPSST with Woodburn Fire to hoist the flag up in the air. This exercise has to be performed in unison because of the size of the flag and because of the procedure in flying an American flag.  We received assistance from Salem Fire Department’s Engine #8 in the raising and lowering of the flag.

This was a special time to pay our respects to our Fallen Firefighters and an honor for Stayton Fire District to assist in this way.  Thank you to Ladder 80’s crew, Lt. Brad McKenzie, Engineer Scott Mullen, FGL Barbra Nelson, FF Frank Ehrmantraut and FF Evan Underwood for your professionalism and participation at this event.
