4/25/2014 Fire Alarm On Thursday, April 24th at approximately 4:07PM Stayton Firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm sounding at a residence in the Oak Estates. The monitored fire alarm indicated the hallway smoke detector was activated. Stayton Fire’s Command Vehicle and Engine 80 responded to the scene. Command heard an audible smoke alarm sounding with the smell of burning food. The homeowner was fortunately found outside of the home asleep and was woken up unharmed. Firefighters discovered a pot of food smoking on top of the stove top. Firefighters used fans to clear the smoke from the home. This is an excellent example of how monitored fire alarms and working smoke detectors can save lives and property. Please take a moment to check your own smoke detectors and replace units or batteries if needed after testing.
