The Aumsville Fire District informs our community with great sadness that Division Chief Ryan Bishop passed away on Wednesday evening, January 30th. Ryan started his career as a volunteer fire fighter while attending Oregon State in Corvallis. He volunteered there until he graduated. After college Ryan moved back home to farm with his family and joined the Aumsville Fire Department on June 1, 1972.
Back then, you were shown your turnouts and told when the phone rings to come running, get on a truck, you’re a firefighter. Ryan has had the privilege to see change in the fire service over the years and he often talked about operations back then compared to operations today.
“I will miss the morning conversations over coffee. He is what I call the coffee generation. We solved the world problems an hour a day for the last 15 years. Sometimes we discussed equipment or farming as we both grew up on a farm. We knew we could count on Ryan to make every effort to respond to emergencies during the day” said Chief Terrill Isaak.
Ryan served the Aumsville Community for over 40 years with no questions asked. He answered the call during the day and in the middle of the night. Ryan offered well thought out advice to the volunteers. He was leader, serving as president of the Aumsville Volunteer Firefighter Association at different times throughout his service.
The Bishop Family greatly appreciated the support from the community. The family said Ryan’s face lit up when he received a card filled with messages of support at his hospital bed.
Memorial Services will be held at the Aumsville Fire Station, 490 Church, Aumsville, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Oregon public-safety apparatus is encouraged to participate in the processional. Please register participating apparatus by contacting AC Hume of Sublimity Fire at (503) 769-3282.
