Neil Street Fire Press ReleaseOn Saturday, January 12
th at 6:51pm The Stayton Fire District responded to a residential structure fire at the 12000 block of Neal Street. Along with Stayton, Aumsville Fire District also responded with crews to assist. A total of 3 engines, 3 water tenders and a command vehicle were at the scene for a total of 18 firefighters. The fire was brought under control at 7:30pm. The kitchen sustained the heaviest damage while the smoke and heat from the fire created damage throughout the rest of the house. The cause of the fire was from an unattended pan with oil on the stove that ignited the kitchen cabinets. Estimated cost of damage to the structure was $15,000 with another estimated $10,000 in contents. There were smoke alarms present and working which alerted the neighbor who was outside of his residence at the time; the neighbor then called 911. The owner was not at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to the occupant or firefighters and the family dog escaped the house unharmed.
