Fire Crews from Stayton, Sublimity, Aumsville and Lyons responded Tuesday evening (12/27/2011) to a structure fire on 903 North Birch Avenue in Stayton. The first arriving unit found heavy smoke conditions coming from all floors of the residence with a fire in the basement of a 2 story single family dwelling, all occupants were out when FD arrived.


The fire started in the basemant and damage was confined to the basement with smoke and heat damage to the first and second floors. There was some damage to the structure and contents with estimates of $15,000 in structure loss, and $5,000 in property loss.  The cause of the fire was combustible materials too close to the chimney clean out located at the base of the chimeny in the basement. There were no firefighter injuries, however a cat deceased in the fire.
