If you plan on deep frying a turkey for the holidays, please use extreme caution and follow recommended safety tips. The oil can become overheated and ignite or boil over and come into contact with the open flame of the fryer, causing a flaming inferno. This can result in fires and burns that can mar an otherwise wonderful day with family and friends.
Turkey Fryers pose many hazards:
- Many units easily tip over, spilling hot oil onto the burner and creating large fires and burns
- If the pot is overfilled with oil, the oil may spill over when the turkey is lowered into the pot. Oil will hit the flames on the burner and burst into flames
- Partially frozen turkeys contain water which causes the oil to boil over and ignite
- Most fryers don’t have thermostat controls, so the oil can continue to heat to its ignition point
- The side of the pot, lid, and handles get extremely hot, posing severe burn hazards
If you are still considering using a deep fryer for that turkey then please, follow recommended safety tips.
